Easy DIY Hot Pads & Placemats Tutorial

Everyone needs a good, CUTE, hot pad or even an entire set of them....AND matching placemats?!?! You can't get any cuter.  

Whether you need some of your own or you need some quick gifts to make, these hot pads will be a hit!

Let's get started with our supplies:

Supplies:

  • 100% cotton fabric (you can use one fabric or mix the patterns/colors up with multiple fabrics)
  • 100% cotton batting or heat-resistant batting
  • 100% cotton thread

Pattern Pieces:
For traditional square Hot Pads:

  • Cut 6: 8.5”x8.5” (22x22cm) squares from cotton fabric
  • Cut 2: 8.5”x8.5” (22x22cm) squares from cotton batting or heat-resistant batting
  • Optional (for hanging loop) Cut 1: 4”x1.5” (10x4cm) from cotton fabric

For large rectangle Hot Pads:

  • Cut 6:10.5”x15” (27x38cm) rectangles from cotton fabric
  • Cut 2:10.5”x15” (27x38cm) rectangle from cotton batting or heat-resistant batting
  • Optional (for hanging loop) Cut 1: 4”x1.5” (10x4cm) from cotton fabric

For round Hot Pads:

  • Cut 6:10.5”x10.5” (27x27cm) circle from cotton fabric (or trace your round pan)
  • Cut 2:10.5”x10.5” (27x27cm) circle from cotton batting or heat-resistant batting (or trace your round pan)
  • Optional (for hanging loop) Cut 1: 4”x1.5” (10x4cm) from cotton fabric

For Placemats:

  • Cut 6:12.5”x18.5” (32x47cm) rectangle from cotton fabric
  • Cut 1:12.5”x18.5” (32x47cm) rectangle from cotton batting
  • Optional (for hanging loop) Cut 1: 4”x1.5” (10x4cm) from cotton fabric
