Making your own ornaments can be super easy. All you need for this is mason jar rings (clean, rusty, found somewhere in a box in your grandma's root cellar - they'll all work!), twine and a bit of ribbon. I used both jelly jar and wide mouth rings for this. You could also use the gallon ones for huge wreathes. The twine is the jute you can find pretty much anywhere. I got a little fancy and bought some white jute off of Amazon for variety. It comes in different colors and thicknesses. The ribbon is up to you. Satin, grosgrain, rick-rack...whatever you like. Oh, and scissors.
Step 1: Measure out how much jute you'll need for hanging, 6" or so is good. Tie a knot around the ring.
Step 2: String out a bunch of jute. You can leave it on the roll, but it's harder to work with (and may not fit through a smaller ring). Start wrapping!
Step 3: Wrap all the way around the ring. It will take awhile. If you run out of jute, string out some more and tie it together. You can hide the knot in the underside of the ring wrapping. When you get back to where you started, tie a knot with the 6" length you left loose at the beginning. Then tie a second knot at the ends to make a hanging loop.
Step 5: Add the ribbon! I leave about 7-8" loose so I can tie a bow. Wrap the ribbon as tightly or loosely as you want around the ring until you get back to your starting point. Knot the ribbon at the front of the ring. Tie a bow and trim any excess. You can get creative here! Use more than one color ribbon, or tie a tiny bell or sprig into the bow.
That's it! You're all done.
