It's not often that I have all the supplies that I need for a bag. Most of the time I have ZERO webbing and I have to make my own. If you're anything like me you need to make your own handles, adjustable shoulder straps, or strap connectors.
I'm here to help! Here's the video I produced to show you how it's done. Be sure to to check out all the details and the written tutorial below.
Let's start with handles:
Making these is super easy. Here's what you need:
- Determine how long you handles need to be. This will vary based on the project and your preferences.
- Determine how wide you need them to be. Refer to the table below
Finish width | Cut width |
3/4" | 3" |
1" | 4" |
1 1/4" | 5" |
1 1/2" | 6" |
2" | 8" |
Next up we have the adjustable shoulder strap:
Here's what you need:
- Two swivel clips the size of your finished width
- One adjustable strap buckle the size of your finished width
- For the best adjustable strap I like to cut a 60" long piece. It can be shorter based on you fabric and you needs.
- Determine how wide you need them to be. Refer to the table below
Finish width | Cut width |
3/4" | 3" |
1" | 4" |
1 1/4" | 5" |
1 1/2" | 6" |
2" | 8" |
Last, it's the Strap Connectors
Here's what you need:
- Two D-rings the size of your FINISHED width.
- Cut two: 3-4" x cut width. Refer to the table below
Finish width | Cut width |
3/4" | 3" |
1" | 4" |
1 1/4" | 5" |
1 1/2" | 6" |
2" | 8" |
The next time you're out of webbing check out this blog post to make your own.
Happy Making!
